Twitter Suspension
I do not know if there was an algorithm that suspended my tweet or if some concerned user reported it.
My tweet was not about COVID-19 or the coronavirus vaccine but rather an observation of what happened during the cold weather season. The serious complication of a viral infection or vaccination I was referring to was Guillain-Barre Syndrome, rapid inflammation of the nerves that causes weakness and can progress to paralysis that may involve the lungs and heart. It can and does kill even with supportive treatment. The good news - it is rare and most people somewhat recover.
My tweet raised a different concern - the ethics to apply or abstain from the treatment of a well individual in the context of ambiguity and uncertainty of making decisions about medical treatments when both a disease and a treatment can cause debility. The likelihood of any of these events is estimated for a population. We cannot apply statistics of a population to the individual in front of us. We lack the ability to foretell who will react to an infection or a treatment in an unusually severe way. Nor do we know if a person is equally susceptible to a complication from either a virus or a vaccine; or if one may preclude or enhance the other.
I further believe that any fool or authority can broadcast their ideas to the world without any worry that it may mislead somebody. Each of us has a head on his shoulders and can decide whom to listen to. In an open forum, there is a collective ability to discuss an issue and present nuance that may be lost in a short tweet statement. I believe in the power of my and your authority to decide what to do.
I am much honored that my humble personality and the statement about an observable fact of reality present a threat large enough to the world's most powerful and esteemed health authorities for my account to be suspended.
